WHERE IS THE TRANSPARENCY?

The present Federal government has been talking about transparency, integrity and justice in the admnistration since Abdullah Badawi became PM. Many government decisions by the previous administration under former PM Mahathir Mohamad have been re-examined as they were said to be made opaquely, although Abdullah was also involved in deciding it as he was part of the past administration. Now it is time for Abdullah's administration to reveal the amount of ex-gratia given to the judges involved in the Tun Salleh Abbas' case as the money belonged to the rakyat - yours and mine! Why is it so secretive to mention it? Are the ex-gratias given were so little or too big an amount of money that the government is scared to reveal it? This may be trivial. But since the issue is about transparency, well it's worth to know about it. This KL Senator is right on course!

Syed Ali Wants Govt To Reveal Amount Of Ex-gratia Paid To Former Judges

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- A senator Friday urged the government to reveal the amount of ex-gratia payments to six former judges who were either sacked or suspended from duties during the 1988 judicial crisis.Senator Datuk Syed Ali Al-Habshee said the government had the responsibility to reveal the amount as the payment involved "the people's money"."The people have the right to know," he told Bernama. He noted that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim had declined to reveal the amount each time the de facto law minister handed over the payment to the former judges.
